  2. Home energy: U.S. EPA, Household Carbon Footprint Calculator. Average U.S. home energy use produces ~5.1 metric tons of CO₂ per year.
  3. Tree sequestration (lifetime): Estimates vary widely by species, site, and survival rate. A planted tree that reaches maturity is commonly estimated to sequester roughly 50–100 kg of CO₂ over its lifetime; 50 kg is used here as a conservative figure. This is a lifetime estimate, not an annual offset, and is not a carbon credit.
  4. Forest density: Standard reforestation planting density of ~400 trees per acre (varies by species and region).
